Under the Hood

In addition to aesthetic updates, the new Forester ditches the prior iterations turbocharged engine option for one revised 2.5-liter boxer-four engine across the lineup. The new engine offers drivers 12 more horsepower and two more pound-feet of torque than the previous 2.5-liter bringing the total to 185 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Also, the six-speed manual will no longer be an option, and all Forester models will use a continuously variable transmission.
